Trevan D. Fischer, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgical Oncology at John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John's Health Center. He is the Assistant Program Director of the Complex Surgical Oncology Fellowship program at JWCI. He came to the John Wayne Cancer Institute in 2015 as a Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellow and transitioned to faculty after graduation. Dr. Fischer completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Florida. He attended the University of Oklahoma for both medical school and his undergraduate work. Dr. Fischer's clinical interest are melanoma and cutaneous oncology, breast oncology and soft tissue sarcomas. He also believes in advancing the science of minimally invasive surgery and innovative surgery. His research focus has mirrored his clinical interests. Dr. Fischer has experience performing research in large national databases. This has led to several publications and oral presentations in rare soft tissue tumors and neuroendocrine tumors. He also has a research interest in quality of life in cancer patients and their caregivers. Dr. Fischer was drawn to surgical oncology due to the multidisciplinary team approach to caring for patients with cancer. He feels this team approach has led to many improvements in the quality of care that cancer patients receive.
