Bio


Susan Sklar, MD, opened the Sklar Center for Restorative Health in response to the unmet medical needs of men and women in the Long Beach, California, area. When conventional medicine failed to address her own and many of her patients’ concerns, she turned to functional medicine and found the answer. As a practitioner of functional medicine, Dr. Sklar takes a holistic approach to the body and the way all its systems work together. Dr. Sklar is a Harvard-trained gynecologist who spent more than 20 years as a practicing OB/GYN. She started her medical training at the Boston University School of Medicine and served an internship at Boston City Hospital. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Harvard’s Beth Israel Hospital. Her health journey — and the expertise she developed as a gynecologist — eventually led her to pursue training for sexual function solutions and a fellowship in anti-aging and regenerative medicine with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. It all began when Dr. Sklar started to feel sluggish, burned out, and overwhelmed on a daily basis. She also suffered from misdiagnosed colitis and what she was told was irreversible osteoarthritis in her knee. Instead of accepting this as her fate, she sought alternative approaches to her conditions. Using the Sklar Center Protocols she designed, she achieved a calm, vibrant, and happy disposition. She also discovered that what had been diagnosed as colitis was gluten intolerance, and she was able
