Dr. Shahin Ghadir is dedicated to helping patients overcome their reproductive challenges and infertility issues to achieve their goal of having children. A true visionary, he is inspired by the idea of both giving life and bringing life into the world.
As a founding partner of Southern California Reproductive Center, Dr. Ghadir is double board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and also at the Keck School of Medicine at USC.
A native Angeleno, Dr. Ghadir earned his bachelor’s degree with cum laude in psychology from UCLA, and his medical degree from the Central University School of Medicine, where he graduated summa cum laude and was ranked first in his class. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, as well as a three-year subspecialty fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the combined UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center program. Dr. Ghadir currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Fertility Association as well as the Neuromuscular Disease Foundation (NDF). He has received many academic awards and honors over the years, including a distinguished residency teaching award and community service recognition award.
A very popular, approachable and well-liked fertility specialist, Dr. Ghadir’s expertise has been featured nationally and internationally in the Los Angeles Times, Redbook, People Magazine, Beverly Hills Weekly, Antelope Valley Press, Fox News, ABC, BBC, Telemundo, Univision, The Bump and Marie Claire Russia, among many other media. He has not only been listed among Los Angeles Magazine’s “2014 Super Doctors,” but also named “Altruist of the Year” by Datebook Los Angeles. In addition to appearances on several television shows, his expertise is sought after among the LGBT media as well, including The Fight, The Mirror, Frontiers LA, The Bay Area Reporter, South Florida Gay News and 429 Magazine, among many others. Dr. Ghadir is also currently one of the national spokesmen for Astroglide.
More than his strong work ethic, Dr. Ghadir has built a reputation as a compassionate, responsive and hand-holding physician. A strong believer in preparing for the future, he is committed to helping patients retain their future fertility options – whether it is egg freezing, embryo freezing, or even when preparing for medical treatments that can affect reproduction, such as chemotherapy. His desire to help is what motivates his philanthropic efforts as a volunteer speaker with Fertile Hope – a national, nonprofit organization (now part of the Lance Armstrong Foundation) that provides education, support and hope for cancer patients whose medical care raises risks of infertility. In addition to being the President & founder of the nonprofit, Fertility For All, Dr. Ghadir also serves as a speaker for the Healthy Family Community Awareness Lecture Program and Extend Fertility, a woman-run company that provides egg freezing services.
Dr. Ghadir is a huge advocate for the LGBT (Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgender) community and offers sensitive fertility treatment plans to address their various needs. He is a supporter of the Family Equality Council and has helped hundreds of LGBT couples and individuals start their families.
A clinician and scientist at heart, Dr. Ghadir has conducted considerable original research on women’s health issues such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the treatments of fibroids in fertility, adhesion therapies as well as research in the area of sexual health. Dr. Ghadir did his thesis in the area of PCOS with some of the world’s renowned experts at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center. Additionally, he frequently lectures both nationally & internationally on all aspects of fertility treatments, which includes his broad range of knowledge in the specific care and protocols relating to treating women over the age of 42 and allowing him to have exceptional success rates in this category.
A published author, his papers are found in peer-reviewed journals including Fertility and Sterility and The New England Journal of Medicine, as well as clinical journals such as Sexuality, Reproduction & Menopause. He is also a contributing author of the Infertility section of the new McGraw-Hill reference, Current Obstetric & Gynecologic Diagnosis and Treatment.
His fluency in English, Spanish and Farsi, combined with a lifetime of interactions with the diverse communities of Los Angeles, give him a unique cultural sensitivity that draws in patients from around the world. Dr. Ghadir lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jessica, and three children (a daughter and twins– boy and girl).
Reproductive endocrinologists provide care that specializes in the hormonal aspects of infertility and reproduction. Dr. Ghadir is trained to deal with issues relating to infertility, menstrual disorders, sexual dysfunction, menopause and hormonal imbalances, among other complications that can affect the body's ability to reproduce safely (both men and women may be treated). Reproductive endocrinologists work very closely with patients toward the ultimate goal of bringing a healthy baby into the world.
