Selina Shah, MD, FACP is board certified in both sports medicine and internal medicine. She is the Director of Dance Medicine at the Center for Sports Medicine based out of San Francisco, CA. She practices at the San Francisco and Walnut Creek offices. She completed her undergraduate, medical school and residency training at Vanderbilt University and her fellowship training in sports medicine in Los Angeles.
Dr. Shah serves as a physician for USA gymnastics, Berkeley Repertory Theater, Mills College, St. Mary’s College, San Francisco Ballet School, and Healthy Dancer’s Clinic. She is the dance company physician for Company C, Diablo Ballet, Liss Fain Dance Company, and Moving Arts Dance Company. She has taken care of several Broadway show performers including Wicked, South Pacific and Lion King. She has worked with U.S. Women’s National Soccer, the World Gymnastics Championships, U.S.A. Track and Field, the Senior Olympic Games, Nashville Predators Ice Hockey, Ironman U.S.A., and several biking, triathlon and marathon events. Dr. Shah has been athletically active all of her life and has competed in gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and swimming. She has over 20 years of experience as a dancer and has studied various disciplines including modern, ballet, pointe, jazz, and Bollywood. She has danced professionally in Bollywood and salsa companies. She is currently a professional dancer, half marathon runner, scuba diver, and yogi. With this background Dr. Shah understands the active lifestyle and enjoys treating medical and musculoskeletal issues in active people of all ages and abilities.
Dr. Shah also has a strong interest in research and has published several articles including original research, case studies, and reviews in the fields of dance medicine, sports medicine, and internal medicine. She has also co-authored the chapter on Dance Medicine in the Netter’s Sports Medicine: the Team Physician’s Handbook. She has lectured and presented both nationally and internationally.Dr. Shah currently practices at the San Francisco and Walnut Creek Centers for Sports Medicine.
