Dr. Ronald Hobbs is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. He has been involved with research on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity and vitreoretinal interface disorders. He has presented his research at national meetings and his efforts have led to many publications, book chapters, scientific presentations and posters. He holds several professional memberships including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Phoenix Ophthalmological Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Hobbs graduated with honors from the Texas A&M College of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. He then returned to Arizona to complete a Transitional-Year Internship in Tucson. He completed his residency training at the prestigious University of Oklahoma – Dean McGee Eye Institute. He was honored to be elected by his fellow residents to serve as the Chief Resident during his final year there. Dr. Hobbs was selected by the faculty of the University of Oklahoma for the T.E. Acers Award for his research on Retinopathy of Prematurity. He then spent an additional 2 years at the renowned Moran Eye Center of the University of Utah as a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellow and Clinical Instructor. He was honored by the residents for his efforts as a teacher and mentor with the Fellow of the Year Award.
Dr. Hobbs speaks fluent Spanish. His interests include the latest microsurgical treatments of retinal diseases. He enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, football and time with his wife and five children.
As an ophthalmologist in AZ, Dr. Ronald Hobbs is trained to diagnose, treat, and manage diseases or trauma of the eye. Dr. Hobbs may treat conditions such as glaucoma, corneal tumors, cataracts, retinal disorders, conjunctivitis, astigmatism and ocular tumors. Treatments may include the prescription of medication or surgeries such as corrective surgery (e.g. LASIK), cataract surgery, or glaucoma surgery.
