Bio

Dear Patient,

Thank you for visiting my MD.com page! Whether you are an an existing patient, or are in search of a new provider, I hope you will get a sense of who I am as a person, my philosophy of care, and the incredible journey I've been and continue to be on. I know that selecting a primary care physician is an important process. This is why I take it as a great privilege that people entrust my team and I with their care. If you live in the Dallas area. I hope you give our practice a look. Below is a summary of my background and how I got to where I am today.

Education and Medical Training

I grew up in Naples, Florida with my parents and older sister. I had an early desire to be in medicine so I could help others and was inspired by my mother's health challenges with asthma early in my life.  I completed my undergrad training at the University of Florida (UF) and a nutritional science master's degree at UF as well. My medical school training was at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. During my final year at Drexel, I met a wonderful young lady on eHarmony.com who at the time was living in Los Angeles, California and a graduate of the beautiful Pepperdine University. When I graduated from med school, she moved out to the East Coast to continue our courtship and we were married soon thereafter. I embarked on a rigorous 3 year-internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore and attained board-certification in Internal Medicine. Then Texas came calling....

Kaye, Allen, Duhaney, and Walsh (now Texas Health Adult Care)

After completing residency in the fall of 2008, and now with an infant son, I was recruited by a group of talented general internists across the street from the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. They were a busy clinic looking to add another physician to their group. The clinic is affiliated with Texas Health Resources (THR) and Texas Health Physicians Group (THPG). This is where I started to form the beginnings of my professional relationships with many great physicians in the Dallas area and Texas was becoming home.

Internal Medicine of Addison

In 2013, I was given an opportunity to lead a THPG primary care clinic in Addison, TX when the doctor there needed to move to San Antonio to be with family. I along with a very dedicated office manager helped to improve its services.  We were honored by our patients by receiving Readers Choice Awards over the last few years and I was fortunate to be assisted by a hard-working team. Then, I wanted to look beyond the walls of hospital clinic employment...

Questcare Medical Clinic at Plano (QCP)

Several years ago, taking the verses in Proverbs 3:27 to heart, "Do good to others when it is in your power to do so," I started serving at a charity clinic called QuestcareClinic in Dallas in my off-hours. I loved it! QuestcareClinic (now called Watermark Urgent Care provides urgent care services on a walk-in basis and is a partnership between the physician group (Questcare/Envision Physician Services and Watermark Community Church) where my family and I attended a few months after moving to the area. Serving at the charity clinic reminded me that while there is the obvious physical conditions, a large part of healing is the emotional, mental, and spiritual component. The character of the staff, volunteers, and management team stood out out to me as admirable for what God was doing through them.

By early 2016, I was approached by the primary care division leadership of Questcare. These were indeed the folks who helped launch the Questcare charity clinic I had grown to love. They asked me to help lead their new insurance-based primary care clinic in central Plano.  Then after almost 8 incredible years with THR and THPG, I joined Questcare Medical.

At QCP, we provided comprehensive primary care clinic providing a wide range of acute and chronic services for patients 16 years old and up with young and middle-aged adults. Working with our nurse practitioner we were growing. However, I still longed to have a clinic of my own. Then I get an email in late 2018...

Medtopia Medical Clinic

I was called back to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas to help lead the Medtopia Medical Clinic. A well-established group of doctors: Drs. Cox, Chanez, and Christina joined MDVIP - a cash only, concierge medicine practice and some of their patients who would not be able to join them could help form the foundation of this new clinic in January 2019. Along with my QuestcarePlano patients and new patients, we formed Medtopia. I'm currently joined by Daria Wood, our physician assistant. Given the great community support and now being part of the Southwestern Resources ACO (UT Southwestern and THR Health Network), we can give the next level of primary care treatment and service excellence to those in the area we serve. We aim to remain accessible through online messaging to facilitate communicate with patients. Stay tuned for continual improvements in what we can offer. Reach out to us with any feedback you have. We are on the web, Facebook, and Instagram. New and former patients are welcome.

I love having patients engaged in their health! My passion for is for preventative health, general wellness, weight-loss and nutrition. Healthy, balanced lifestyles are major keys to health. We have same day work-ins, patient portals, escribing prescriptions, online scheduling, and are always seeking to expand our services to better meet your healthcare needs. So keep staying tuned!

On-ward and Up-ward!

As we all know, our healthcare system is complex, costly, and often frustrating. As front-line providers of care, we sometimes bear the brunt of patient frustrations with this system. We hear you! I get just as frustrated - whether it is an insurance prior authorization for a valuable medication or a block on a needed referral or test. Please know we are on your side and have to follow the rules of this crazy road too. But know that we will keep fighting for the best care we can for you! If my team and I fall short in any way, it is important for us to acknowledge that and help make things right. Communication is key. Our motto at Medtopia is "Primary Care. Redefined." - So let us know how we are doing and how we can best serve you.

I see myself as a helper in the overall healing process with my patients while acknowledging the hand of God as the true, ultimate healer. So I invite you to give us a call if you are looking for a new PCP in the area and many thanks to those who have been loyal patients all these years! That's been my story, we'd love to hear yours. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best wishes,

Dr.D.
