Dr. Reza Karimi is a board certified, double-fellowship tranied Neurosurgeon at North Jersey Brain and Spine Center. His practice includes all areas of Neurosurgery with special expertise in both microvascular neurosurgery and endovascular neurosurgery.
He is a senior member of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery (SNIS), member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and full member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Dr. Karimi is one of only a small number of neurosurgeons in the nation with advanced fellowship training in both open microvascular neurosurgery and endovascular neurosurgery.
Dr. Karimi attended Fordham University in New York and medical school at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. During medical school, Dr. Karimi was the recipient of several esteemed awards, including the Student of the Year Award and the Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award.Dr. Karimi underwent residency training in Neurological Surgery at New Jersey Medical School-University Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He served as the Chief Resident in Neurosurgery at both the University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Dr. Karimi has actively conducted clinical research in the fields of cerebrovascular neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neurosurgical anatomy, flow dynamics of intracranial aneurysms and biomechanics of the spine. He is the author of over a dozen abstracts which have been presented at national neurosurgical meetings and is the author or co-author of multiple peer-reviewed articles in major neurosurgical journals. He has presented and lectured extensively at both national and international neurosurgical meetings. Additionally, he is the author of multiple textbook chapters in highly referenced neurosurgical textbooks including Youman's Neurological Surgery (6th edition), Benzel's Spine Surgery: Techniques, Complication Avoidance and Management, (3rd edition), The Cervical Spine (5th Edition) and Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology, Theory and Clinical Practice.In addition to completing his residency in neurological Surgery, Dr. Karimi completed advanced fellowship training in both microvascular neurosurgery and endovascular neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital in New York, where he trained in the latest techniques in the treatment of brain aneurysms, vascular tumors, stroke, and vascular malformations of the brain and spine.
Dr. Karimi maintains one of the busiest neurosurgical practices in New Jersey and at the same time offers a personalized, one-on-one approach to each of his patients with emphasis on a patient-centered care philosophy and high quality outcomes. He is a life-long New Jersey resident and practices at Hackensack University Medical Center, Valley Hospital, Holy Name Medical Center and St Barnabas Medical Center.
As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Karimi is trained to perform highly technical surgeries to correct disorders of the central, autonomic or peripheral nervous systems. He may provide both invasive and minimally-invasive surgical treatment options, depending upon the patient's condition.
