Dr. Rafael Lugo earned his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine, Ponce, Puerto Rico.  He completed his general surgical training and residency at Alton Oschner Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Lugo has been in the Houston area since 1999.

Dr. Lugo’s philosophy of practice is to treat the patient and not the disease.  He makes an effort to provide informed consent and give all available options to his patients. He believes that the physician and patient must form a partnership to work together towards good health. Dr. Lugo is currently a member of the Methodist Physician Organization.  His practice is in the north part of Houston and also at the main campus of The Methodist Hospital system.

Dr. Lugo is the father of three children and resides in the North Houston/Woodlands area.  In his free time he helps people improve their physical fitness and nutritional status.  He is involved in technological advances to improve medical care and likes to spend time with his children and family.  Dr. Lugo has privileges at The Methodist Hospital at the medical center and Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
