Dr. Philip Chen is a highly trained gastroenterologist who graduated with Distinction (top 15%) from The George Washington School of Medicine. He excelled and completed his internal medicine residency at UC Davis and GI fellowship at UC Irvine. During both training programs, he repeatedly achieved the top in service exam scores among his peers and consistently scored in the top 90th percentile nationwide.
Prior to joining United GI, he worked for 7 years in a highly integrated multispecialty group in Riverside providing high quality, cost effective care. While practicing there he served on clinical faculty for the UC Riverside Internal Medicine Residency Program and introduced multiple newer advanced endoscopic techniques including endoscopic mucosal resection of large and giant polyps, single operator cholangioscopy with electrohydraulic lithotripsy, and advanced techniques for bile duct access. He also performed one of the first fecal transplants in Riverside County.
He was recently elected to become an esteemed Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) after demonstrating significant achievement and superior competence within the field of gastroenterology. He has published in multiple highly regarded peer reviewed journals.Utilizing an innovative water immersion technique for colonoscopy, he has achieved an adenoma detection rate in the top 1% of all gastroenterologists and has expertise in finding and removing flat polyps which typically have higher risks for cancer. He welcomes the challenges of completing difficult and previously incomplete colonoscopy exams. He is one of the few gastroenterologists nationally certified by the ASGE Star program for endoscopic mucosal resection.
