Bio

Dr. Newt Hasson is an orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in sports medicine, knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, and total joint replacement of the hip and knee. Dr. Hasson has been a fixture in South Austin, Texas, since 1983, when South Austin Medical Center was just a small community hospital. Since then, his practice has grown to include patients from all over Central Texas. Dr. Hasson received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University. He did his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford University and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic under sports medicine icons Dr. Jack C. Hughston and Dr. James Andrews. A former collegiate lacrosse and football player, Dr. Hasson has been the team physician for Westlake High School for over 28 years. He also currently serves on the board of directors for the Greater Austin Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Previously, he served as medical director and on the board of directors of the Texas Special Olympics, and on the boards of the South Austin Chaplain Ministries and the Austin Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In 2009, Dr. Hasson was the first team physician to be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. He also received the Champions of FCA, You Make a Difference in EISD awards, and the Contribution to Amateur Football award from the National Football Foundation.
