My name is Neena Agarwala and I am a Urogynecologist. I have loved being a teacher, a researcher and a patient advocate in this new subspecialty of Ob-Gyn over the last 12 years. Losing bladder control or pelvic support can be demoralizing and disheartening. When a patient tells me that I have “given her life” back, I could not be more satisfied. I truly feel that this field allows me to serve and meet my patients’ needs and make a real difference in their lives. I have strived hard to bring minimally invasive surgical options for these conditions and I am very fulfilled to see the positive impact of my work - my patients appreciate it from the bottom of their hearts.
I have joined the Roosevelt Hospital Medical Center Faculty Practice and will provide Minimally Invasive Gynecological and Urogynecological Services (principally laparoscopic and robotic approaches to treatment) for our patients.
Minimally Invasive Surgery allows patients to recover faster, return to work sooner, have less pain and less bleeding during and after their procedure. Over 99% of my patients leave the hospital in less than a day after major procedures like hysterectomy and pelvic floor repair. They have fewer adhesions and less post operative complications.
I am pleased to be one of the few Urogynecologists with extensive Robotic Surgery experience. I am a proponent of sacrocolpopexy for mesh placement thus avoiding the risks posed by the vaginal procedure. I perform the sling procedure for incontinence which is not associated with the risks seen with vaginal meshes.
I am also fortunate to be part of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists where I serve in the capacity of Vice-President for the Urogynecology Special Interest Group, teach courses and chair courses in Laparoscopy, Robotics and Urogynecology. I have also been given the honor of being one of 12 physicians on the Task Force to develop the Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Test for young physicians and residents to become certified in MIS all over the world.
Urogynecologists are trained to treat women suffering from all types of pelvic disorders, such as incontinence, uterine disorders or sexual dysfunction, among others. Dr. Agarwala is trained in both surgical and non-surgical treatments for women suffering from these conditions, and can help restore the quality of life in patients. Conditions treated by a urogynecologist will often be extremely personal, or potentially embarrassing, for patients.
