Born and raised in North Texas, Dr. Michael Nguyen received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University. He then attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His orthopedic training was performed in Orange County, California at The University of California, Irvine Medical Center where he won multiple national and international awards for his patient care as well as his research. From there he underwent additional specialty training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Stanford University where he was a team physician for many different sports teams including Stanford football, basketball, volleyball, and the San Francisco 49ers.Dr. Nguyen is licensed in the state of Texas and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine; the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy;and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. His practice and expertise focus on sports-related injuries of the shoulder, knee, and hip.
As an orthopedic surgeon in Texas, Dr. Nguyen is trained to diagnose and treat all types of injuries to the musculoskeletal system, including the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. After arriving at a specific diagnosis, Dr. Nguyen will generally resort to surgery when all other treatment methods have been exhausted or ruled out. Patients may require the care of an orthopedic surgeon for fractures, torn ligaments, sprains, sports injuries, and more.
Sports medicine physicians are trained to provide treatment and prevention plans for those participating in sports and related physical activities. Dr. Nguyen is trained to treat complications such as muscle tears and strains, concussions, tendon and ligament damage, shin splints, sports hernias, fractures, and a variety of others. Treatments may include rehabilitation services, therapies and a variety of surgical operations, among others.
