Mary Kathleen Figaro, M.D. is board-certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She attended medical school at Yale University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the New York Hospital (now known as NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center) and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has also completed a two-year fellowship at Cornell in epidemiology and Health Services Research, where she was faculty; she was also faculty at Vanderbilt University and taught Preventative Medicine to second year medical students. She has developed a personal curriculum for integral endocrinology module based on her research background. She is a currently studying herbal medicine at the David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies.In her clinical practice, Dr. Figaro applies the knowledge obtained through rigorous academic research and clinical training in endocrinology and distills it through the wisdom of holistic health. Dr. Figaro’s main interest is in the prevention of endocrine disorders and their complications. She sees patients with Diabetes, Prediabetes and metabolic syndrome, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, osteopenia (or low bone mass) and osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), menopausal symptoms (including those patients with breast cancer) for an integrative treatment plan. Dr. Figaro does not practice functional medicine, but an integrative approach to conventional endocrine disorders. She has access to the latest state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment tools and will partner with you to develop a personalized treatment plan using a patient-centered approach for your endocrine conditions as well as your broader health.
Endocrinologists are trained to treat patients for a variety of hormonal diseases and disorders, such as diabetes. Dr. Figaro can diagnose and create treatment plans for conditions like growth disorders, obesity, low testosterone, osteoporosis and various thyroid disorders, among others. Treatments provided by an endocrinologist may include medication management or hormone therapies.
