Dr. Mark Shaya is a neurosurgeon in Miami, Florida. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan, where he was fascinated by neuroanatomy and neurosurgery. His education and training for medicine and surgery took him from Ann Arbor, through the South in Houston, then Louisiana, and finally to Miami. In Miami he was instrumental in revitalizing the neurosurgery program at Cedars Medical Center in downtown Miami. He heads the largest private neurosurgical practice in South Florida called The Neurosurgical Institute of Florida.
He also is responsible for the continued success of the Florida Neurosurgical Society and has grown it to one of the largest state neurosurgical societies in the country. He is one of the few general neurosurgeons in the region adept at brain, spine, peripheral nerve, and radiosurgery. He has privileges at 6 hospitals and he currently on the executive committee in the Southern Neurosurgical Society.
