Tampa Back Institute was founded by Mark Nicholas Perenich, D.O., who was fellowship trained by world recognized surgeons at the Texas Back Institute. Dr. Perenich specializes in using minimally invasive techniques that greatly reduce the impact of surgery on the body. As a result, our patients commonly enjoy more predictable surgical outcomes, faster recovery times, and a quicker return to work and hobbies than they would experience with traditional spinal surgery. He’s born and raised in the Tampa Bay area where he also completed his residency program.
Dr. Perenich earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Florida State University. He then continued his education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he completed Graduate and Medical School. Dr. Perenich then completed a one year internship program followed by a four year residency program at Largo Medical Center where he served as the Chief Resident. During residency, Dr. Perenich completed rotations with nationally recognized spine surgeons at hospitals locally in the Tampa Bay area.
By the time Dr. Perenich completed his spine fellowship program at the prestigious Texas Back Institute in Plano, TX in 2016, he had completed over 600 surgeries under the supervision of world recognized surgeons. He participated in various additional surgical technique courses including Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery State of the Art Spine Surgery course. During his fellowship, Dr. Perenich focused on spine trauma, scoliosis, and disc replacement surgery also. Along with Dr. Perenich’s academic accomplishments, he has also been the recipient of numerous grants and awards, as well as being published in an academic journal.
Specializing in orthopedic spine surgery, Dr. Perenich can diagnose and treat a range of conditions affecting the spine. These may include degenerative diseases, arthritic conditions, fractures, tumors, deformities such as scoliosis, and other conditions. Treatment techniques may range from invasive to minimally-invasive surgeries of the spine and vertebrae. However, depending upon the patient's diagnosis and medical history, treatments may be non-surgical in nature.
