Dr. Shomer opened his office in Upland, California in 2009 with the aspirations on providing a higher level of care for his patients. He specializes in complicated cataracts and teaches other doctors how to perform this delicate surgery as a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute at USC School of Medicine. Other specialties include advanced lens implants such as the crystalens, ReSTOR lens, toric IOL's, glaucoma, medical retina.
Dr. Shomer earned a bachelor's degree with Highest Departmental Honors from UCLA and graduated Summa Cum Laude with Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Shomer was then awarded a full academic scholarship from UCLA School of Medicine., where he earned both MD and PhD degrees. He was awarded the National Research Service Award from the NIH, the Outstanding Graduate Student Award, and a Certificate of Recognition from the California Legislature Assembly. Dr. Shomer completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Jules Stein Institute at the UCLA School of Medicine. Now he is also a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute at USC. Dr. Shomer utilizes a broad spectrum of modern therapeutics and also practices preventative medicine. What distinguishes Dr. Shomer is that he gives each patient the quality of care that he provides to his own family members. He is concerned not only with the ocular health of his patients, but also with their entire wellbeing.
