Born in New Jersey, raised in South Florida, and now proud to be a North Carolinian since 2009, I am excited to offer comprehensive pain management services at Pain and Wellness Solutions of the Carolinas (PWSC) in Durham. We love living in the Triangle and taking care of patients from every part of the state and from all kinds of backgrounds. I find a special sense of purpose as I connect with fellow veterans in the area as well, having proudly served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon both domestically and overseas.
I am a board certified anesthesiologist with additional fellowship and accreditation in pain management. I completed my residency at Emory University in Atlanta and my fellowship at Rush University in Chicago. Previously, I was the pain medicine fellowship director and Medical Director of the UNC Pain Management Center. I am a graduate of MIT and received my medical degree from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
At PWSC, our Mission is straightforward - to treat chronic and subacute pain while placing the patient at the center of his or her care. I am Dr. Manoj Bobby Wunnava, and I bring my compassioned experience and expertise in interventional and comprehensive pain management to Durham. I am committed to treating the complex pain patient and helping individuals live healthy and fulfilling lives. We can incorporate novel and complementary therapies to improve patients' lives.
We treat all types of chronic pain, specialize in interventional pain treatments (epidural treatments, radiofrequency ablations, joint injections, nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation), provide IV ketamine for pain and psychiatric conditions, and offer comprehensive pain management with and without medication therapy as well. We can also provide medication assisted treatment for patients with opioid abuse disorder and hard to treat pain. Novel therapies include horizontal therapy and acoustic wave therapy.
As an interventional pain management specialist in North Carolina, Dr. Wunnava focuses on relieving chronic pain in patients. Interventional pain specialists offer pain relief by blocking or interrupting the transmission of neurological pain signals in the brain. Dr. Wunnava may perform treatments such as spinal cord and nerve stimulation, nerve or medial branch blocks, medication management, or the implantation of drug delivery systems.
Pain management doctors specialize in caring for patients who are dealing with chronic pain, whether resulting from injury, disease, or otherwise. Dr. Wunnava creates customized pain management plans for patients that may include therapy, medication management, or minimally invasive procedures. When creating a customized pain management plan, Dr. Wunnava will evaluate the patient and their medical history, in addition to performing tests to arrive at a precise diagnosis.
Dr. Wunnava is a physician who specializes in the treatment of addiction, which can involve substances, activities, or behaviors. Patients may seek the care of Dr. Wunnava for addictions to drugs and alcohol, tobacco, gambling, illegal activities such as theft, the internet, sex, and many more. Treatments that may be offered by Dr. Wunnava for patients near Durham may include a range of short & long term therapies, detoxification programs, and harm reduction or rehabilitation services, among others.
As an anesthesiologist in Durham, NC, Dr. Wunnava ensures patients are free of pain before (pre-op), during, and after (post-op) a surgical procedure. By administering anesthesia, Dr. Wunnava ensures that patients do not feel the pain of a surgical procedure.
