Kevin M. Kahn, M.D. is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in orthopaedic trauma. He completed two fellowships which provided him with advanced training in the surgical care and management of complex fractures and injuries to the musculoskeletal system as well as of the multiply-injured patient.
He believes strongly in a team-oriented approach to the care of trauma patients at Southwest Washington Medical Center and works closely with general surgeons, plastic surgeons, neurosurgeons, occupational and physical therapists, trauma case managers, and other medical specialists to provide coordinated comprehensive care for severely injured patients. He is a strident advocate not just for a patient’s surgical needs, but also for their rehabilitation, social, and personal needs. Dr. Kahn is an instructor and member of the AO North America Trauma Faculty.
Being an orthopedic surgeon in Washington, Dr. Kahn is qualified to detect and treat all types of damage to the musculoskeletal system, such as the joints, muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. After arriving at a diagnosis, Dr. Kahn will usually suggest surgery after less-invasive treatment options have been exhausted or eliminated. Patients might need the care and attention of an orthopedic surgeon for fractures, torn ligaments, sprains, sports injuries, and more.
Trauma surgeons are specifically trained to provide surgical treatment for critically ill or injured patients, with many surgeries potentially being life-saving for the patient. Dr. Kahn provides time-sensitive surgical care in an effort to repair extensive damage to various parts of the body. For example, a patient with a gunshot wound may require the care of a trauma surgeon.
