Dr. Ko completed Neurosurgery training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City. During residency she also launched her complementary career in art by using the pulsed ruby laser to create medical holograms of the human brain in collaboration with Holographics, Inc. Ko continues this decades long dedication to medicine and art with her Hospital Paintings. She regards painting as a necessary continuation of her surgical practice. The operating theater is her studio; the treatment of the subject begins with the scalpel and concludes with the brush.
Dr. Ko is an unyielding advocate for the integration of art and science in a single mind. Ko, a self taught ambidexter, believes that these disciplines inspire each other. Dr. Ko earned a MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2011.
As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Ko is trained to perform highly technical surgeries to correct disorders of the central, autonomic or peripheral nervous systems. She may provide both invasive and minimally-invasive surgical treatment options, depending upon the patient's condition. Neurosurgeons may treat spinal disorders, traumatic brain injuries, tumors, Parkinson's disease, and more.
