John Gorecki MD MD.com Bio
Dr. John Gorecki is a board certified neurosurgeon with over 25 years of neurosurgical experience. He earned his medical degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and completed his surgical internship at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Dr. Gorecki finished his neurosurgery residency at the University of Toronto, Canada, receiving advanced training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and epilepsy, before moving to the United States. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Gorecki is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Gorecki’s surgical expertise encompasses minimally invasive surgical options for the spine and brain and innovative use of surgical navigation. He also specializes in stereotactic surgery, radiosurgery for the treatment of tumors and deep brain stimulation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, movement disorders, and tremor. He has considerable training and expertise with Gamma Knife and Cyberknife radiosurgery for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, as well as extensive practice treating benign and malignant brain tumors and acoustic neuromas. In collaboration with ENT specialists, Dr. Gorecki’s practice accommodates transnasal endoscopic pituitary surgery.
Due to his extensive surgical training and advanced skills in the surgical suite, his caring, empathetic manner, and proven record of positive patient outcomes, patients often travel a considerable distance to consult with him. Dr. Gorecki remains committed to providing each of his patients with a high standard of neurosurgical advice and care, regardless of whether surgical intervention is indicated, with the ultimate goal of facilitating optimal results and a meaningful quality of life.
Dr. Gorecki has served as Assistant Professor at Duke University Medical Center and on the faculty at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. His leadership experience includes a recent role as Chief of Neurosurgery for Via Christi Health. Previously, he served as Gamma Knife Director for Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Through his work, extensive experience, and participation in funded research activities involving disorders of the brain and spine, Dr. Gorecki has made substantial contributions to a number of research publications, articles, abstracts and exhibits.
Dr. Gorecki’s current professional memberships include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He also acts as Cancer Liaison Physician at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for the ACS Commission on Cancer.
Dr. Gorecki’s independent practice is located in Buford, Georgia, and serves metro Atlanta, greater north Georgia, and parts of surrounding states. He also holds admitting privileges in several first-rate area hospitals, including Northeast Georgia Health System - Gainesville. Dr. Gorecki has four children, the youngest of whom desires to follow in his father’s footsteps and is working to become a future neurosurgeon. When he is not at the hospital or clinic, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children in beautiful north Georgia.
