“Mel” was born in the very small town of Wedowee, Alabama. He is a graduate of Auburn University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. He attended medical school at The University of Alabama School of Medicine and then completed a General Surgery residency at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital System. For fellowship training in Plastic Surgery, he was chosen to attend Tulane University in New Orleans. He has been in practice in Alabama for six years. Dr. Stewart is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Dr. Stewart enjoys all aspects of plastic surgery. His primary areas of interest are in eyelid and brow rejuvenation, as well as in rhinoplasty. In addition to traditional facial plastic surgery techniques, he is a proponent of less invasive techniques such as short scar surgery, fillers, BOTOX®, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels. He also enjoys doing breast enhancement and body contouring, such as liposuction and tummy tucks.
Plastic surgeons perform a wide variety of surgeries that can restore or correct the form and function of the human body, which can be either cosmetic or reconstructive in nature. Dr. Stewart is able to correct abnormalities of the body that may be causing adverse health effects, or perform surgeries to correct malformations caused by birth defects, trauma, tumors or disease.
