Dr. James S. Gardiner is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopic knee & shoulder surgery, as well total & partial knee replacements. Dr. Gardiner has been in practice in Montgomery County since 1995. He has offices located in North Bethesda and Germantown.
Dr. Gardiner has been selected numerous times as Washingtonian Magazine's Top Orthopedists and top sports medicine physician. He has also been recognized as one of Baltimore / Washington's Super Doctors, a Checkbook Magazine Top Doctor, and Chesapeake Bay Magazine Top Orthopedist. He has served as team physician at Seneca Valley High for eighteen years and has been involved at Georgetown Prep and many other local high schools for over 20 years.
Dr. Gardiner has lectured both locally and internationally and has written or co-authored 7 peer review articles. He has been interviewed on TV and radio for his expertise in orthopedics and sports medicine.
Dr. Gardiner was born and raised in Montgomery County. He attended Gonzaga High School, Boston College and Georgetown Medical School. He completed his orthopedic training and sports medicine fellowship at Seton Hall University. He has been in practice in Montgomery County for 20 years. He is on staff at Suburban Hospital, Shady Grove Hospital and The Surgery Center of Chevy Chase. Dr. Gardiner also served as the director of orthopedic surgery at Project Medishare Hospital in Port Au Prince, Haiti for eight days three weeks after the devastating earthquake in February 2010.
Dr. Gardiner lives in Potomac, MD with his wife of twenty five years and his three children. He is an avid outdoors man and enjoys golf, tennis, cycling, skiing, fishing and hunting.
