Following rigorous and lengthy training, thoracic surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform complex surgeries on the chest, or thorax as it is sometimes called. Their focus is usually on the lungs, esophagus, and other areas of the chest, and may also include the heart. As such, Dr. Mccaughan may see patients in New Jersey for a wide range of surgeries, for example removing cancer causing tumors from the esophagus and chest wall, or even a lung transplant.
Patients struggling with obesity problems may see Dr. Mccaughan for surgical and non-surgical bariatric procedures. Procedures commonly performed by a bariatric surgeon include gastric bypass surgery, adjustable gastric banding, and others designed to help patients lose weight. Dr. Mccaughan may also utilize non-surgical treatment plans, such as controlling the patient's diet and exercise regimen.
