Dr. Appelbaum received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., and his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas City, Kan. He completed an internship in internal medicine from St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. He completed his residency and fellowship in neurology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Chicago, Ill.
