I am a Harvard-trained, board-certified psychiatrist with 17 years of clinical experience, including 10 years of experience in nutritional psychiatry. I offer online nutrition consultations to individuals and health care practitioners. Areas of expertise include paleo, low-carbohydrate, ketogenic, carnivore and elimination diets, insulin resistance, and food sensitivities. I speak internationally about and write about food and the brain for PsychologyToday, DietDoctor.com, and DiagnosisDiet.com.
I believe the most powerful way to change your brain chemistry is through food, because that is where brain chemicals come from in the first place. I believe nutritional strategies have the potential to address the root causes of mental illness rather than just alleviate symptoms and can help people reduce or eliminate need for medication. I work with people of all dietary persuasions to optimize their mental health and support them in implementing healthier dietary practices.
I became a psychiatrist because I love helping people and I love science. Our understanding of brain biology is expanding rapidly, and I find learning about the latest discoveries exciting. My goal is to educate people about how food and lifestyle affect brain metabolism, neurotransmitter balance, nutrient delivery and brain function. If people understood which dietary changes were worth making and why, I believe they would feel more empowered and hopeful about their emotional future.
If you are interested in exploring nutritional options to supporting your mental health, which may even help you reduce or eliminate need for psychiatric medications in some cases, please see my page http://www.diagnosisdiet.com/nutrition-consultations-for-mental-health/. There I describe in more detail my services and provide a link to self-schedule an appointment.
