Dr. Norman has had an interest in sleep disorders from very early in his professional career, when he recognized how much of an impact good sleep can make on a person's physical and mental health.
Dr. Norman is board certified in Sleep Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine. He has maintained his academic credentials by participating in numerous research studies, lecturing at UCLA, and authoring over 19 abstracts, book chapters, and scientific articles in peer review journals. He is the medical director of Santa Monica Sleep Disorders Center, a full-service center that evaluates and treats a wide range of sleep disorders, including snoring, obstructive and central sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and sleep-related behaviors. In addition to his busy clinical practice, he is also very involved as an investigator and consultant in cutting edge clinical research related to Sleep Medicine.
Sleep medicine specialists diagnose and treat various disorders and diseases relating to sleep. This can include a range of conditions including insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, nightmares and others. Dr. Norman utilizes a variety of diagnostic tools including screening devices, overnight sleep studies or oximeters, among many others. Treatments can include CPAP therapy, implantation of sleep devices, counseling, lifestyle modifications, and others aimed at eliminating or alleviating the symptoms of sleep conditions.
Pulmonologists are specialized physicians who diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the respiratory tract. As a respiratory specialist, Dr. Norman may diagnose and treat pulmonary disorders such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema and bronchitis, among a host of others.
