Dr. Larriviere is the Acting Chair of Neurology, the Neurology Residency Program Director, and a member of the hospital ethics committee at the Ochsner Neuroscience Institute in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a former Greenwall Fellow in Bioethics and Health Policy at the Berman School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University and a former medical malpractice defense attorney. He is the Chairman of the Ethics, Law and Humanities Committee, a joint committee of the American Academy of Neurology, American Neurological Association, and the Child Neurologic Society, and is a former chair of the Committee on Professional Grievances of the American Academy of Neurology. As a faculty member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he teaches an annual CLE course on ethical and legal issues surrounding the care and treatment of vegetative or minimally conscious patients to US State and Federal Judges. He is a former lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he taught an annual course on legal and ethial issues in the practice of medicine and neuroscience. Dr Larriviere has published a number of articles in the area of bioethics, medical professionalism, end of life legislation and health policy.
