Nirschl Orthopaedic Center is located in the Physician Medical Building adjacent to Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia. There is a multi-level pay parking garage (Green Parking) attached to our medical office.
We are southwest of downtown Washington D.C. Our facility is only a few miles from the Ballston and East Falls Church Metro stops on the Orange Line.

Dr. Wellborn completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he lettered all four years as a distance swimmer. He obtained his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He completed his residency at George Washington University in Washington, DC where he was Chief Resident. After nearly 10 years in practice in Santa Barbara, California, he returned to the DC area in 2007. Dr. Wellborn is presently serving as Chairman of the Orthopaedic Department at the Virginia Hospital Center.
Dr. Wellborn specializes in joint reconstruction and preservation of hip, knee, and shoulder. He is trained on the modern techniques of minimally invasive, rapid recover surgery. He has wide experience in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine and treatment of traumatic injuries.
Dr. Wellborn enjoys treating all age groups from adolescents older active patients. He is dedicated to serving the community and has been the team physician for Lake Braddock High School athletic teams since 2008. Dr. Wellborn has been recognized by his peers as one of the areas "Top Doctors" for several years in Northern Virginia Magazine and has been recognized as one of America’s Most Compassionate Doctors by Patients Choice.
