I practice Functional Medicine, a patient-centered approach where I address the root cause of your symptoms. Many patients are treated with band-aid medicine where symptoms are masked by prescription medication and signs from your body are ignored in order to create the illusion of health. I believe that true health and wellness is only possible when each patient is respected as a unique being and an individualized approach is used.
I have a special interest in women's hormone health, and working with women on their transition through menopause. I approach each patient with compassion and work with her to develop a personalized plan.
I earned an Electrical Engineering degree from UC Davis in 1985 and had a successful career in Silicon Valley before deciding to make the change to medicine. I earned my medical degree from Midwestern University's Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am licensed by the California Osteopathic Medical Board and completed my residency in Internal Medicine at Kaiser Santa Clara where I worked as a Primary Care Physician for seven years before making the change to Functional Medicine.

As an internist in Lafayette, CA, Dr. Carolyn Krieg serves as a primary care provider for adults. She diagnoses and treats a wide range of conditions, including cross-system illnesses that may affect multiple organic systems. Dr. Krieg may also refer patients to a specialist when required. For example, patients with diabetic complications may be referred to an endocrinologist for further treatment.
Specializing in the field of functional medicine, Dr. Krieg focuses on the underlying causes of disease, as opposed to simply treating symptoms as they arise. Functional medicine doctors often focus their efforts on preventive measures, ensuring patients are less likely to contract illnesses or conditions. Dr. Krieg typically work to develop a close, therapeutic relationship with patients, taking many aspects of a patient’s life into consideration when providing care.
Dr. Carolyn Krieg is trained to address a wide range of medical needs in patients through a more holistic approach to care. Osteopathic physicians (DO), also known as osteopaths, are trained in a similar fashion to medical doctors (MD), but are also trained in the use of osteopathic manipulative treatment, abbreviated as OMT. Osteopathic providers like Dr. Krieg take a broader view of patient care, looking at factors like lifestyle choices, diet and exercise regimen.
