Dr. Carolyn Alexander is a passionate physician who is inspired by getting to know her patients. She is board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Alexander’s main clinical interests include the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, unexplained infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. Additionally, she works closely with oncologists on the fertility preservation of patients who are about to undergo chemotherapy.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Alexander received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her medical degree from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. She proceeded to complete both her residency in obstetrics and gynecology as well as her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She was previously Associate Residency Program Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she mentored more than 40 residents over the past decade and won multiple teaching awards.
Dr. Alexander has authored and co-authored numerous articles for peer-reviewed and other publications, including Fertility and Sterility and International Journal of Gynecological Cancer. She has lectured internationally and is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Endocrine Society. In addition, she participated in a multicenter study for which preliminary data was published in Science. This study evaluated patients’ perceptions of embryo cryopreservation with the goal of improving patient care.
Dr. Alexander highly values the bond between patient and physician and strives to give a personal touch to her patients. As part of her philanthropic endeavors, she has participated in the March of Dimes and is also a part of the ASRM’s Women’s Counsel. When she’s not working with patients, Dr. Alexander enjoys spending her time with her husband and two boys, as well as hiking and reading.
Reproductive endocrinologists provide care that specializes in the hormonal aspects of infertility and reproduction. Dr. Alexander is trained to deal with issues relating to infertility, menstrual disorders, sexual dysfunction, menopause and hormonal imbalances, among other complications that can affect the body's ability to reproduce safely (both men and women may be treated). Reproductive endocrinologists work very closely with patients toward the ultimate goal of bringing a healthy baby into the world.
