HOURS OF OPERATION
Dr. Tolin has been with The San Antonio Orthopaedic Group since 1992. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and completed medical school at the Medical College of Ohio, where he was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honory Society, awarded nationally to the top medical students.
He completed his general surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Tolin was recognized by the Orthopaedic faculty at Penn with the DeForest P. Willard Award, for the outstanding performance during his residency. He was a Fellow in Basic Science Research at the McKay Laboratories of Orthopaedic Research at Penn, specifically investigating cartilage cells. After completing his residency training, Dr. Tolin spent an additional year as a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellow with the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI), specializing in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, knee, and ankle.
Dr. Tolin has been actively involved in education and research of knee and shoulder problems. He has published articles, textbook chapters, and has lectured at national meetings. He is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has attained sub-specialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Tolin is the Team Physician for the San Antonio Talons Arena Football League Team, and Smithson Valley High School. He is also a team physician for the San Antonio Scorpions Soccer Team. He has been an Orthopaedic consultant for The University of Texas at San Antonio Athletic program, and a team doctor for Trinity University. In addition, he has worked with the Dallas Cowboys & Houston Oilers summer training camps in San Antonio. He has been named one of the best doctors in San Antonio and one of "America's Top Surgeons."
Dr. Tolin has a special interest in arthroscopic shoulder repair, total knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, and sports injuries.
Dr. Tolin has been listed in Super Doctors® for the past 9 consecutive years. He was also listed as one of San Antonio's Top Doctors, a list featured in U.S. News and World Report, and named in SA Scene's list of SA Doctors: Best of 2014.
As an orthopedic surgeon in Texas, Dr. Tolin is qualified to identify and treat trauma to your musculoskeletal system, including the joints, muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. After reaching a specific medical diagnosis, Dr. Tolin will generally turn to surgery when all your other treatment options are already exhausted or eliminated. Sports medicine physicians are trained to provide treatment and prevention plans for those participating in sports and related physical activities.
