Alexandra R. Myers, DO, MSHS finished her Sports Medicine Fellowship with San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center (SDSM) in July 2014 and joined the practice as a full-time provider on August 1, 2014. Previously, she obtained a BA in Biology and Spanish at Cornell College. She then earned DO and MSHS degrees at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, where she also did an Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship in osteopathic manipulative medicine. Dr. Myers completed her family medicine residency at Downey Regional Medical Center in 2013. She is board certified in family medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment, with a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine. Dr. Myers is the Director of Women's Athletic Medicine at San Diego State University, and the Team Physician for Santa Fe Christian High School. She also works extensively with San Diego Christian College, Cuyamaca College, and San Diego City College. In addition, she works with USA Rugby, is the Co-Medical Director of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk (along with Dr. Becca Rodriguez), and is the Medical Director for the Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon. She is bilingual in Spanish, and she volunteers annually on medical missions to Mexico with Liga International and to Haiti with Global Health Teams. Originally from Wrightwood, CA, Dr. Myers enjoys skiing, hiking, tennis, soccer, and surfing.
Dr. Myers is normally the initial point of contact for patients looking for general or primary medical treatment & can direct patients to a specialist when necessary. Sports medicine physicians are trained to provide treatment and prevention plans for those participating in sports and related physical activities. Dr. Myers is trained to treat complications such as muscle tears and strains, concussions, tendon and ligament damage, shin splints, sports hernias, fractures, and a variety of others. Treatments may include rehabilitation services, therapies and a variety of surgical operations, among others.
Dr. Alexandra Myers is trained to address a wide range of medical needs in patients through a more holistic approach to care. Osteopathic physicians (DO), also known as osteopaths, are trained in a similar fashion to medical doctors (MD), but are also trained in the use of osteopathic manipulative treatment, abbreviated as OMT. Osteopathic providers like Dr. Myers take a broader view of patient care, looking at factors like lifestyle choices, diet and exercise regimen.
Urgent care specialists offer immediate medical care to patients requiring time-sensitive treatment for a range of minor illnesses and injuries—especially those that are not serious enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room.
