(HealthDay News) -- It's important to be at a healthy weight before you become pregnant.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests these pre-pregnancy regimens:

  • Eat a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet. Cut back on sugary treats, such as desserts, sodas and sweets.
  • Make sure there's a healthy balance between calories consumed and calories burned each day.
  • Exercise at a moderate intensity for about 30 minutes on most days of the week. At least three days per week, add in strength training to help build muscle.
