Dr. William L. Dowden is a well-respected and highly rated surgeon with a stellar reputation for excellence in Lexington, KY. He is a Kentucky native, born in Louisville and raised on a dairy farm in Brandenburg, west Kentucky. His medical education began with a chemistry degree from the University of Kentucky in 1966, followed by graduation from the University of Kentucky Medical School in 1970 and an internship in internal medicine at the University of Florida. He also studied at the University of Colorado as an extern within the Department of Cardiology.
In 1971 Dr. Dowden returned to Kentucky to become a Department of Surgery resident at the University of Kentucky, serving as Chief Resident in General Surgery and Chief Resident of Plastic Surgery in 1975-1976. Sharing his knowledge and experience with colleagues and students is important to Dr. Dowden in Lexington, KY, and one way he does this is as a Volunteer Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Kentucky. Courses taught include: facial surgical rejuvenation with forehead/brow lifting, liposculpting with fat transfer techniques, facial contouring with liposuction and the Omega umbilicoplasty, which is a process to create a new navel. In 1982, he was among the first to introduce transaxillary augmentation mammaplasty (the armpit approach) to Lexington and Kentucky, and in 1983, he performed what is thought to be the first uni-pedicle and bi-pedicle TRAM flaps breast reconstruction surgery in Kentucky. Dr. Dowden continues to pioneer advanced procedures for facelifts, methods for minimally invasive surgery, and the use of multiple fat transfer applications to promote healing and restore youth.
Dr. Dowden does not tell his patients what they must do. Instead, his core philosophy is to help patients come to a decision that is right for them personally. This takes time, patience and good communication. Dr. Dowden and his staff are dedicated to applying this unifying principle in each and every patient relationship.
Plastic surgeons perform a wide variety of surgeries that can restore or correct the form and function of the human body, which can be either cosmetic or reconstructive in nature. Dr. Dowden is able to correct abnormalities of the body that may be causing adverse health effects, or perform surgeries to correct malformations caused by birth defects, trauma, tumors or disease. He also performs elective surgeries, which patients undergo to improve the aesthetic appearance of a certain body part.
