Dr. Stanley Mathew is a physiatrist based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Since 2009 Dr. Mathew has been a member of St. Luke’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) medical team. Throughout his career, Dr. Mathew has focused on pain management, spasticity management, and spine and musculoskeletal medicine among other areas of medicine. Although Dr. Mathew was born and raised in New York, he fell in love with Iowa as soon as he moved to the state. He looks forward to continuing to help patients and grow his business over the next couple of years.
“Patient care and interacting with patients are the best aspects of working in the medical field,” says Dr. Stanley Mathew. “I love spending time with people who need help, getting to know them, and, ultimately, helping them overcome their health issues.” One challenge of helping patients manage their pain is setting realistic expectations. Patients who are in pain want relief as quickly as possible, but that’s often not possible. Dr. Mathew takes a multiple disciplinary approach to chronic pain. By working with his team of professionals, he is able to offer patients treatments that make a positive difference in their lives.
One of the most valuable lessons that Dr. Stanley Mathew learned early on in his career is how important the right attitude is. “If there’s someone in this world who has gotten to a certain level in their career, then it’s possible for you to get to that level too, but you have to push yourself and not listen to critics.” Over the years Dr. Mathew has found that an optimistic attitude and simple, practical actions like getting up early in the morning are some of the key contributors to one’s success.
Non-opioid based treatments are one of the trends that Dr. Stanley Mathew is most excited about. The opioid crisis has devastated communities across the United States. Dr. Mathew embraces treatment alternatives that don’t rely on drugs but still help improve patients’ lives. Another trend that Dr. Mathew is excited about is the use of stem cells as disease treatment which has the potential to revolutionize medicine.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Mathew has enjoyed sharing his medical knowledge and expertise with attorneys and insurance companies over the past eight years. Dr. Mathew has worked on numerous cases related to personal injury, class action, and malpractice. For more information on Dr. Mathew’s medical expert services, visit this link.
