Bio

Terrance R. Reeves, MD, FACS, DFASAM is a native of Fort Walton Beach.  He has a private practice in Navarre, Florida. He is an Addiction Medicine Physician at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast of Florida, and past Medical Director of Destin Recovery Residential Treatment Center. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Reeves attended medical school at the University of South Florida. His residency was completed at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and he completed fellowships at University of Tennessee and Stanford University.  He is a Navy Veteran having served as the Head, Division of Vascular Surgery, Naval Medical Center San Diego. He speaks nationally several times per year on addiction issues, and he is writes for Addiction Professional Magazine.

Dr. Reeves has been board certified in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Addiction Medicine. His experiences with severe vascular disease and also treating opioid dependence has led to a practice treating physical and emotional aspects of chronic pain syndromes. He also treats all addiction issues using newer office based medicines with proven safety and effectiveness.

For pain or dependence problems, Dr. Reeves has the only office based practice in West Florida approved by the DEA to provide treatment to 275 patients with a medication that most Doctors are not certified to use, buprenorphine. This medicine is an extremely effective pain reliever for chronic pain without known dangers of usual pain medications.  It can be used to transition off of other medications or as ongoing treatment. Such conditions we have seen direct results from buprenorphine are complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), degenerative disc disease, arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, Crohn’s Disease, irritable bowl syndrome, endometriosis, neck/back pain, other neuropathies, and other chronic issues.

We use evidence-based medicine and treat addiction as a chronic disease. Let me say that again, we treat the disease of addiction and substance abuse with the same rigorous methodology as you would treat diabetes, heart disease or depression. Treatment involves the latest science that combines medical therapy and private, one-on-one counseling.

This complex disease involves changes in the structure and function of the brain. Treatment needs to involve the mind, body, and soul. This requires not only therapists and peer groups, but the ongoing involvement of a physician.

I am committed to helping individuals RECOVER. We offer real treatment to people with drug and alcohol addiction problems though the various transitional stages of recovery and moves them towards being a self-managed individual in control of their own life. Our evidence-based medical approach to recovery incorporates a variety of treatment programs that ultimately focus on learning or regaining life skills that enable long-term recovery and prevent relapse.
