Robert L. Patz, M.D., is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been practicing orthopaedic surgery, with a subspecialty interest in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, in the greater Boston area for over 10 years. Dr. Patz is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He recently earned the Subspecialty Certificate in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Patz continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Patz received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University. He received his medical degree from Tufts Medical School in 1991. He was subsequently accepted to and completed the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Boston University Medical Center in 1996. He completed an accredited one-year Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia (ORV) in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Patz is affiliated with a number of local hospitals, including the New England Baptist Hospital, which is rated as one of the top orthopaedic hospitals in the country. Dr. Patz is a clinical instructor in the New England Baptist Sports Medicine fellowship program. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. These academic and clinical affiliations help Dr. Patz provide his patients the most up-to-date, highest quality orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine care.

He has published articles in peer review journals and made presentations at meetings throughout the country.
Being an orthopedic surgeon in Massachusetts, Dr. Patz is qualified to treat and diagnose all forms of damage to the musculoskeletal system, such as the bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joints. Following a diagnosis, Dr. Patz will typically prescribe surgery when less-invasive treatments have failed to produce the desired results or have been ruled out. Patients might need the care and attention of an orthopedic surgeon for sports injuries, sprains, torn ligaments, fractures, and more.
Sports medicine physicians are trained to provide treatment and prevention plans for those participating in sports and related physical activities. Dr. Patz is trained to treat complications such as muscle tears and strains, concussions, tendon and ligament damage, shin splints, sports hernias, fractures, and a variety of others. Treatments may include rehabilitation services, therapies and a variety of surgical operations, among others.
