Dr. Robert Lahita is the author of more than 16 books and 150 scientific publications in the field of autoimmunity. He is the editor of the standard textbook called Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (now in its 5th edition) and the Senior Editor of the Textbook of Autoimmunity, published in 2002.
Dr. Lahita is also the Associate Editor of the Journal Lupus and co-editor of the Yearbook of Rheumatology. He is also the author of Lupus, Q&A, the Arthritis Solution and Rheumatoid Arthritis: everything you Need to Know -- three books for patients. Dr. Lahita is also the author of a book called Women and Autoimmune disease; the mysterious way the body betrays itself, Regan Books of Harper Collins Publishers. Dr. Lahita is a reviewer for some 15 medical journals and on the editorial boards of three.
His research interests are the molecular aspects of antigen expression in response to sex hormones in the autoimmune diseases and the etiopathogenesis of the phospholipid syndrome.
Dr. Lahita is also an emergency responder since 1990 and currently serves as the medical director of the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Police and Fire Surgeon for the Village of Ridgewood. He is also a member of the New Jersey State Task Force on Emergency Operations. He was the medical director of EMS for the County of Hudson from 1990 to 2004.
Dr. Bob has also been the editor for the Lupus International Journal since 2004.
