Bio


Robert L. Block, MD is a board certified diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), The American Medical Association (AMA), and the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians (CSEP).

Dr. Block received his undergraduate degree from Vassar College and attended Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel. He completed a three year Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. After which, Dr. Block trained in Ophthalmology at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

As Chief Resident at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Block earned recognition from the American College of Eye Surgeons for “Best Cataract Surgery” by a resident in 1996.

After completing his Ophthalmology training,    Dr. Block joined a practice with Dr. Charles Kelman in New York. Dr. Kelman was an innovator of modern cataract surgery. Dr. Block worked with Dr. Kelman from 1997 to 2000. During this time, Dr. Block was a member of the Ocular Trauma Team at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Additionally, Dr. Block taught modern, micro-incision, clear cornea cataract surgery to residents in training at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Long Island College Hospital and University Hospital Brooklyn. He is an Associate Professor at Quinnipiac University – Frank Netter School of Medicine. He continues to teach surgical technique to residents as faculty of New York Eye & Ear Infirmary City Wide Resident Phaco Course.
