Dr. Nikola Ragusa is a board certified, fellowship trained, cataract and glaucoma specialist. He graduated Magna cum laude from acclaimed BS/MD program at The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and Alpha Omega Alpha from S.U.N.Y. Health Center at Brooklyn. Dr. Ragusa went on to complete his Ophthalmology residency at North Shore- Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Nikola Ragusa pursued subspecialty fellowship training in glaucoma at the premier New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, which was also ranked as one of the best ophthalmology programs by the US News and World Report. There, as a highly coveted Glaucoma Fellow, he was trained by distinguished leaders in all facets of glaucoma, Drs. Robert Ritch, Jeffery Liebman, Celso Tello, and Christopher Teng. His areas of subspecialty training included complex glaucoma diagnosis and management, laser treatments for glaucoma, glaucoma surgery, including: trabeculectomy, tube shunt, trabeculotomy, surgical revision and cataract surgery.
Dr. Ragusa is an award winning doctor, and has for years been educating his patients and community on how to fight against glaucoma blindness by: 1) promoting early detection through screening, 2) furthering understanding of the disease through good doctor-patient communication and 3) stressing the importance of continued patient follow-up to monitor for progression. Dr. Ragusa strives to increase awareness of glaucoma because it is such a prevalent disease in a population of people who do not even know that they have it.
He has performed extensive research in his field and has given presentations both nationally and internationally. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, American College of Surgeons, New York State Ophthalmological Society and the New York Glaucoma Society. He speaks fluent Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian and is competent in Spanish.
