Dr. Neil S. Patel is a vitreoretinal specialist in New York City. He is the Director of Retina Services and President of New York Ophthalmology. He is affiliated with the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, St. Barnabas Hospital (Bronx, NY), and the Ambulatory Surgery Center of Greater New York. Dr. Patel has taken care of thousands of patients from New York, and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment – both medical and surgical – of the vitreous and retina. He has performed over a thousand surgeries using the latest techniques and has helped teach many young surgeons in the most advanced medical, laser, and surgical treatments of the eye.
Dr. Patel began his academic career at Columbia University, earning a B.S. in Mathematics, and subsequently earning a Master’s degree in Applied Physics. Following this, he obtained his medical degree at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He completed a one-year internsip in general surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, followed by a residency in Ophthlamology at the presigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary - the nation’s oldest and busiest eye hospital and a premier institution for ophthalmology training in the tri-state area.
A subsequent two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery was completed at the University of California at Irvine, under the supervision of Dr. Baruch Kuppermann. In addition to taking part in numerous clinical trials, he performed numerous surgeries in some of the most complex cases in the region for diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, ocular trauma, and many other retinal disorders.
Dr. Patel is board-certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has experience lecturing nationally and internationally.
Most important to Dr. Patel is providing the most advanced ophthalmic care to his patients in the most relaxed environment possible.
