Dr. Michael E. Contreras is a board-certified Dermatologist, who moved to Denver from his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico to join AboutSkin. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Contreras worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico Department of Dermatology for two years and then in private practice in Albuquerque for two years prior to joining AboutSkin. Dr. Contreras completed his Dermatology residency at the University of New Mexico in 2005. He published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed a chapter to a dermatologic surgery textbook. Dr. Conteras has also lectured at several national and international meetings. Dr. Contreras received his undergraduate degree in 1996 from the University of Southern California in biomedical and electrical engineering and graduated with the distinction of summa cum laude. He returned to Albuquerque for medical school and graduated in 2001 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and received the Faculty Award for Excellence. Following his training, Dr. Contreras stayed on faculty at the University of New Mexico and trained residents at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He has maintained a teaching role while in private practice as a preceptor for medical students and physician assistant students interested in dermatology.
