Dr. Mary Smith joined Virginia Women’s Health Associates in 2018 after practicing general obstetrics and gynecology for over 8 years in the greater Washington region. Her favorite thing about being an OBGYN is the ability to build relationships with women through all stages of their reproductive lives. Dr. Smith is committed to providing the best quality of care with a little bit of humor mixed in!  She especially enjoys delivering babies, well woman care, contraceptive care, and helping women with infertility.

Dr. Smith is originally from Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, she moved to Baltimore and earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  She completed her OBGYN residency training at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, where she was the Administrative Chief Resident. She also received the Outstanding Resident in Obstetrics Award.  After completing training, Dr. Smith moved back to the Baltimore/Washington area to be closer to her family, working in Annapolis for two years before moving to the Northern Virginia area in 2013. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  She has privileges at Reston Hospital Center and Inova Fairfax, where she serves as a Teaching Attending with the OBGYN resident physicians and is a member of the department’s Peer Review Committee.

Dr. Smith’s husband, Chris, is a Realtor in the area, and she has a daughter and a goldendoodle named Gio.  When she is not delivering babies, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, reading, and cheering for the Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
