Our practice specializes in evaluation and surgical treatment of all malignancies or tumor of the chest. This includes lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal and chest wall tumors. Our focus on minimally invasive and robotic surgery, as well as our expertise dedication only to non-cardiac thoracic surgery often provides options not previously available to patients.
Following rigorous and lengthy training, thoracic surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform complex surgeries on the chest, or thorax as it is sometimes called. Their focus is usually on the lungs, esophagus, and other areas of the chest, and may also include the heart. As such, Dr. Herrera may see patients in Florida for a wide range of surgeries, for example removing cancer causing tumors from the esophagus and chest wall, or even a lung transplant.
Surgical oncologists offer surgical treatment for patients suffering from a variety of cancers. The goal of a surgical oncologist is to stop the advancement of the disease through surgical intervention, sending the patient into remission. Dr. Herrera may offer a range of surgical treatment types including preventive surgery, curative surgery, diagnostic surgery, debulking surgery, palliative surgery, restorative surgery, and more. Dr. may offer surgery in conjunction with other treatments like radiation therapy, chemotherapy or hormone therapy.
