Dr. Kristen Carmichael is a proud native Texan who attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. As a college student, she was fascinated by science and medicine and volunteered in hospitals throughout the metroplex. Following graduation, she attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and then did her OB/GYN residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Returning home to be close to family, she visited Las Colinas and fell in love with the serenity, beauty, and proximity to Dallas. She has lived in Las Colinas and practiced at Medical City Las Colinas since 2004. Dr. Carmichael said, “I love my job and the ongoing variety that being an OB/GYN physician provides, including a full range of obstetric care, preventative care, in-office procedures, and gynecologic surgery, including minimally invasive surgery.”
Board certified with the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Carmichael is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, and Phi Beta Kappa. She appreciates and is humbled by the recurring recognition she has received from DFW Child as a “Mom-Approved Doctor” and “Best OB/GYN” in Irving and Coppell, by Living Magazine readers.
Dr. Carmichael feels honored and grateful to share the joys of pregnancy and childbirth with the families in her practice. “Experiencing that amazing moment, the miracle of new life, the tears of joy and sense of relief in the room,” she shared, “THAT is a moment that will never lose its magic for me.”
From guidance and practical wisdom to aggressively treating bothersome gynecological issues, she feels privileged to support, aid, and heal women as they develop through the different chapters of their lives. “I have known I wanted to be a physician since I was young, but it wasn’t until medical school that I decided I wanted to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology,” Dr. Carmichael noted. “I love OB/GYN because it allows me to get to know each of my patients on a personal level – from her first well-woman exam to her growing family, as well as helping her through other gynecologic conditions that may arise. I love hearing my patients’ life stories at our annual visits.”
Dr. Carmichael has extensive training in robotic and minimally invasive procedures and many years of experience with laparoscopic hysterectomy assisted by the daVinci robotic surgical system. Her impressive training and experience have fed her passion for minimally invasive procedures benefitting her patients. Additionally, she is now offering the innovative MonaLisa Touch procedure in her office, designed to reverse the physical changes that develop after menopause without the use of hormones. “I’m able to provide a lot of minimally invasive options to my patients who need surgery, so they can return to life and work as quickly as possible,” she said.
During her spare time, Dr. Carmichael stays very busy and LOVES being a mom. She spends as much time as possible with her husband, school aged daughter, and Scooby, their miniature dachshund. Their family is active at Irving Bible Church and wholeheartedly enjoys doing local charity work. She’s an avid reader, adventurous foodie, eager traveler, zealous Pinterest follower, merry party planner, dedicated holiday lover, ardent Netflix watcher, enthusiastic music lover, keen theatre goer, joyful dancer and devoted historical fiction buff.
Dr. Carmichael has a friendly staff, some of whom have been with her for over ten years. They are a great team, working together for the benefit of their patients. Offering very personalized care to their patients at all levels is a priority. They can schedule next day appointments for urgent needs and have a very experienced Nurse Practitioner, Myesha Johnson, who can sometimes accommodate immediate or emergent appointments the same day. They also offer 3D and 4D ultrasounds.
In her partnership with patients, Dr. Carmichael hopes they leave her office feeling educated, engaged and empowered in their healthcare. “I don’t want them to be afraid to ask questions,” she noted. “I want them to know I’m on their side. I have their best interests at heart.”
