In 2001, Dr. Sullivan started The Boston Spine Group’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation division of the practice. Having been part of The Boston Spine Group for many years, Dr. Sullivan joined Orthopedics New England in 2015.
Dr. Sullivan received his medical degree from New York Medical College. For two years prior to entering medical school, he played professional hockey in the San Jose Sharks organization. He completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He completed his training with a fellowship in musculoskeletal and pain medicine at the Georgia Pain Physicians.
Dr. Sullivan focuses on physical medicine and rehabilitation in the treatment of spine and musculoskeletal conditions. He utilizes interventional spine treatments including epidural injection, facet joint injection, sacroiliac joint injection, peripheral joint injection (hip, shoulder, and knee), discography, and radiofrequency ablation to diagnose and treat a multitude of conditions.
He is a frequent chairman and faculty member for North American Spine Society instructional spinal injection workshops. Dr. Sullivan has presented at national meetings and has contributed to several chapters and publications. Dr. Sullivan is the Chief of the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MetroWest Medical Center.
Dr. Sullivan is board certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation, and pain medicine.
Physical medicine & rehabilitation specialists, or physiatrists, are doctors who specialize in helping patients rehabilitate from injuries or complications of disease. This could include a weekend warrior coming back from a broken leg, or an aging grandmother dealing with arthritis. Dr. Sullivan may employ a range of treatment & rehabilitation techniques, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and nerve stimulation treatments, among others.
