Originally from California, Justin also grew up in Hawaii where he was exposed to an “earthy” culture of spiritual retreats, bodywork, a variety of healing modalities and alternative therapies and ways of life. After studying for 2 years personally with renowned homeopath David Little, Justin pursued a Master’s in Homeopathy, which he completed at The American University of Complementary Medicine in 2000, prior to attending medical school.
Justin received his M.D. from Ben-Gurion University/Columbia University Medical School for International Health in Israel and New York, then completed his medical internship in Internal Medicine at The Cambridge Hospital and his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Massachusetts. After residency Justin worked in the Boston area as a family physician and functional/integrative medicine specialist at the Marino Center for Integrative Health and then Visions Medical Center.
Justin feels that his diverse background as a family doctor, a specialist in functional/integrative medicine, as well as homeopathy gives him a balanced perspective of health and healing. His experience in both conventional and holistic practices contributes to his openness and ability to not only relate to clients but also provide them different perspectives so that they can make well-balanced decisions about their health. Now that he no longer practices medicine he sees his role as a health guide, educator, and mentor, and one who empowers others with knowledge and options. He feels that it is only the individual that has the power to modify his/her lifestyle choices (food choices, bedtimes, how to navigate through the challenges of relationships and the cultivating of intimacy, etc.).
Justin sees his approach to health and well-being as the antithesis to the ‘one-size-fits-all’ protocol approach that defines the mainstream healthcare paradigm. In contrast to grouping symptoms into a common diagnosis that can become a shared label, Justin wants to know what makes an individual unique. Looking for one’s idiosyncrasies rather than for one’s similarities to others is the key to figuring out what is needed to change one’s health reality. He believes that healthfulness is the natural state of the human experience, which can change negatively when deranged by any variety of potential influencing factors, either internal, external, or both. His goal is to help clients identify the underlying causes of such derangements and then to ultimately identify the barriers to removing them. He does not consider this a medical service or practice, but rather health consulting and coaching. He can only guide clients where to kick the ball, but it is the client who has to actually kick the ball in the goal and take ownership of his or her health.
As a very warm, personable individual, Justin enjoys rolling up his sleeves and getting serious about the issues that really matter in each individual’s health and healing process. Whether working with individuals, families, or larger groups, such as with corporate wellness programs, treatment centers, specialty lab testing companies, nutraceutical/nutritional supplement companies, et cetera, Justin is passionate about helping others change their health realities. Justin and his family – wife and three children – enjoy local adventures as well as traveling afar to visit relatives, finding new delicious cuisines, spending time with close friends, and generally connecting with self and others.
