Dr. Jessica Collins is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is also fellowship trained in adult craniofacial surgery, aesthetic surgery and pediatric craniofacial and plastic surgery.
Dr. Collins comes from Canada where she completed her medical school training at McGill University (she is fluent in English and French). She then completed her plastic surgery residency training at McMaster University, renowned for its clinical and evidence-based medicine training.
Dr. Collins also underwent training rotations at Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Southern California, University of Toronto, and Kameda Medical Center Hospital (Japan). She then became Canadian Board Certified in Plastic Surgery after successfully completing rigorous examination by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, receiving the title of Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).
Dr. Collins then underwent two fellowships in San Diego. The first focused on adult craniofacial surgery as well as aesthetic surgery. Through this fellowship, Dr. Collins honed her skills on procedures of the face, from reconstruction to aesthetic procedures including facelift, browlift, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and facial implants. Her second fellowship through the University of California, San Diego focused on pediatric craniofacial and plastic surgery. This allowed Dr. Collins to specialize in all pediatric plastic surgery procedures, with an emphasis on craniofacial problems including craniosynostosis (premature fusion of cranial sutures), congenital abnormalities of the facial skeleton and cleft lip .
Dr. Collins is also currently a UCSD Department of Surgery Clinical Instructor (non-salaried). She is an accomplished author with multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She has presented at national and international conferences. Her great affinity for patient care and teaching were highlighted by highly regarded awards, such as the Rady Children's Hospital San Diego CARES Award and the PAIRO Resident Teaching Award. She has also received training awards from the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons and Operation Smile, the latter with which she participated in an international mission for kids with cleft lip and palate.
Dr. Collins practices out of two offices, in Encinitas and in Kearny Mesa. She is accepting new patients and accepts most insurances. Dr. Collins can address all of your plastic surgery needs, from reconstructive surgery (congenital, trauma, burns, cancer, scars, etc.) to the full gamut of aesthetic surgery of the body and face.
Plastic surgeons perform a wide variety of surgeries that can restore or correct the form and function of the human body, which can be either cosmetic or reconstructive in nature. Dr. Collins is able to correct abnormalities of the body that may be causing adverse health effects, or perform surgeries to correct malformations caused by birth defects, trauma, tumors or disease. She also performs elective surgeries, which patients undergo to improve the aesthetic appearance of a certain body part.
