Dr. Faisal Mahmood, a native of New Jersey, is proud to be serving the community of his home state. Growing up in Essex County, Dr. Mahmood attended Millburn High School where he graduated among the top of his class. He was accepted to Johns Hopkins University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. During his undergraduate career, he was actively involved in community service and devoted his efforts to research in the field of orthopaedics; studying innovations in bone healing at the Johns Hopkins University Medical School Department of Orthopaedics.
He returned to New Jersey to complete his medical training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). During his time at UMDNJ he continued his involvement with community outreach programs and in orthopaedic research at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in which he was involved with investigating the wear patterns on total joint implants.
Following medical school he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center/Seton Hall University, where his research interests continued in the field of spine and spinal disorders. He currently holds multiple publications and book chapters to his name in the field of orthoparedics.
To further his training, he completed a spine fellowship at Twin Cities Spine Center, an internationally distinguished institution dedicated to the optimal management of spinal disease and disorders. Under the guidance of eleven of the world’s leading experts in spine surgery, Dr. Mahmood honed his skills in cutting edge technology and minimally invasive techniques surrounding spine surgery.
Dr. Mahmood is well versed in joint reconstructive surgery of the knee, and hip, sports related surgery of the shoulder, knee, and hip, in addition to spinal surgery involving the neck, mid, and lower back.
Specializing in orthopedic spine surgery, Dr. Mahmood can diagnose and treat a range of conditions affecting the spine. These may include degenerative diseases, arthritic conditions, fractures, tumors, deformities such as scoliosis, and other conditions. Treatment techniques may range from invasive to minimally-invasive surgeries of the spine and vertebrae. However, depending upon the patient's diagnosis and medical history, treatments may be non-surgical in nature.
Being an orthopedic surgeon in New Jersey, Dr. Mahmood is trained to treat and identify all forms of injury to your musculoskeletal system, including the bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joints. After making a diagnosis, Dr. Mahmood will often resort to surgery when all the other treatment options have already been exhausted or ruled out. Patients might need the attention of an orthopedic surgeon for torn ligaments, sports injuries, fractures, sprains, and more.
