Dr. Affleck is a nationally recognized and respected surgeon with over 16 years experience practicing cardiothoracic surgery, specializing in minimally invasive surgery among many others.
His highest priority is to improve the lives of his patients. He understands their concerns and is the ultimate patient advocate. To that end, Dr. Affleck helps his patients and their families to understand all of the surgical and medical options available to them.
Dr. Affleck is a board-certified surgeon and was among the first nationwide to perform the Mini-Maze technique. This innovative and highly specialized minimally invasive surgical technique eliminates or decreases irregular heartbeats caused by atrial fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias. This experienced surgeon is currently the only one in Utah certified to perform the Mini-Maze technique. He not only conducts this surgery at MountainStar hospitals in Ogden, Salt Lake City and Orem, but Dr. Affleck also trains surgeons around the country in this innovative approach.
Dr. Affleck’s Specialties include Cardiothoracic Surgery which provides surgical treatment for organs in the chest including the heart, lungs and related structures, as well as Vascular Surgery, which provides for the surgical treatment of diseases affecting the circulatory system. Dr. Affleck works closely with five other specialized doctors including Dr. Gilbert Schorlemmer, Dr. SV Karwande, Dr. J Kent Thorne, and Dr. Robery Zink.

Dr. Affleck may perform both minimally invasive or invasive procedures ranging from angioplasty to open heart surgery or transplant surgeries.
Vascular surgeons are trained to evaluate and treat complications and diseases of the circulatory system including arteries, veins, and blood vessels. Dr. Affleck may offer a range of surgical and non-surgical treatments, including the removal of plaque from arteries, treatment of varicose veins, and surgery to prevent aneurysms, heart attacks or coronary artery disease, among others.
